Home > China Travel & Practical Guides > Beijing Capital Airport Arrival Guide
This guide follows the real walking route after arriving at Beijing Capital Airport. Instead of explaining the airport in theory, it shows what you actually see step by step.
It is useful if you are visiting Beijing for the first time and need to collect luggage, buy a SIM card, find transportation, or use Didi after arrival.
1. Arrival at Beijing Capital Airport
After landing, follow the passenger flow toward the arrival area. Most main signs are shown in both Chinese and English.
2. Collect Your Checked Baggage
After immigration, follow the signs to baggage claim. Check the electronic screen for your flight number and baggage carousel.
3. Follow the Main Direction Signs
After collecting your luggage, keep following the signs for exits and ground transportation. Look for words such as Exit, Taxi, Metro, or Online Car-hailing.
4. Continue Following Airport Signs
Do not look for Didi immediately inside the baggage area. First follow the official airport route toward the transport area.
5. Buy a Chinese SIM Card If Needed
If you do not already have mobile internet in China, you can buy a Chinese SIM card or data package at the airport. Mobile internet is important for Didi, Alipay, WeChat, maps and translation apps.
6. Check SIM Card Prices
Airport SIM card prices may be higher than city prices, but they are convenient if you need internet immediately after arrival. Bring your passport, because real-name registration may be required.
7. Continue Walking After the SIM Card Area
After the SIM card area, continue walking along the arrival route. Keep following the signs toward ground transportation.
8. Follow the Transport Direction Signs
The route may feel long, especially with luggage. Continue looking for signs for taxi, airport bus, metro, parking or online car-hailing pickup.
9. Take the Escalator Down
At this point, you may need to go downstairs. If you have heavy luggage, use the lift instead of the escalator.
10. Continue Toward the Transportation Area
After going downstairs, continue following the signs. This area usually leads to taxis, Didi pickup, airport buses or parking areas.
11. Arrive at the Ground Transportation Area
You are now close to the airport pickup area. Check your Didi app or driver message carefully. The driver may tell you a specific pickup point or zone.
12. Find the Didi Pickup Area
Didi drivers cannot stop anywhere at the airport. You usually need to wait in the designated online car-hailing pickup area.
If you are unsure, show airport staff your Didi app screen and ask where to wait.
13. Wait in the Didi Area
Wait here until your driver arrives. Before getting into the car, check the license plate, car model and driver information in the app.
14. Meet Your Driver and Leave the Airport
Once the car arrives, confirm the destination. If you are going to a hotel, hospital or apartment, prepare the Chinese address in advance.
Useful Tips for First-Time Visitors
- Prepare your hotel or hospital address in Chinese.
- Keep your passport and phone charged.
- Use official taxi lines or official pickup areas only.
- Do not follow private drivers who approach you inside the terminal.
- Buy a SIM card early if you need Didi, Alipay, WeChat or maps.
- If you have heavy luggage, use lifts instead of escalators.
