Free Fruit Cutting Service

Many fruit shops in Beijing offer free fruit cutting after you buy the fruit. Staff can peel and cut watermelon, Hami melon, pineapple, dragon fruit, mango or pears, then pack the fruit into a plastic container.

This service is usually free. You can take the fruit back to your hotel, eat it while walking, or bring it on a short trip.

Price Tip: What Does “Jin” Mean?

In China, fruit prices are often shown per jin. One jin equals 500 grams. If you want to estimate the price per kilogram, double the listed price.

For example, if watermelon costs RMB 3.2 per jin, then it is about RMB 6.4 per kilogram.

How to Pay in a Beijing Fruit Shop

Most fruit shops accept mobile payment, especially Alipay and WeChat Pay. Some small shops may also accept cash, but mobile payment is more common.
